S.E Hinton!
Impact on today.
Her books, changed, and are still changing the way people look at young adult literature.

Its a story about making decisions in the heat of the moment. All these boys are just trying to live their lives in spite of the hardships they face. Johnny and his abusive parents, Ponyboy and Sodapop living without their parents, in a slum area of town, where the rich kids are always making you feel like trash. When Dallas confronted the police with a gun at the end of the book, it was his reaction to all the tough things in his life. He lost his best friend, he had no direction in life, and he cracked, knowing that pulling a gun on the police is suicide..

*Hinton takes her typical teen protagonists just a few years down the line into their mid20s.
*Her books are kind of bitter and lacking in hope, but still retain a spark.
*Her books have been taught in some schools, and banned from others.
*The Outsiders, was her first novel, and was published in 1967.
